Me? I normally provide comic relief, my arms for stirring and more trouble than I'm worth.
Strangely, I've felt the need to start recifying my uselessness in the kitchen (must be all the junior masterchef episodes I've been watching) and this is what I've been up to.
Cranberry Scones:
Ingredients: Flour, cream, lemon, cranberries, sugar, baking powder
Seems simple enough right?
Zesting a lemon is no easy task with no grater. That meant that I had to peel it then cut the bits into even smaller bits.
Pulsing the mixture in our food processor that we never use. I still felt like I was on track.
Rolling the dough to divide into scone shapes
Scones in the oven baking. And this is where it all went wrong.
I baked the scones for too long at too high a temperature which resulted in severely burnt and bitter scones. BLEH. They were so bad that even my mum didn't try and console me by eating them after taking a first bite.
Today, I made Mac & Cheese. (Recipe from: http://ourlifeinthekitchen.com)
This was slightly less of a disaster. I even made homemade bread crumbs because I thought we didnt have any. I did evenutally open up the kitchen cupboard to find out that we did, but only after I was washing up. (Of course this sort of thing would happen to me)
However, I only used mild chedder which meant that the cheese sauce was quite flat tasting and I over cooked the pasta a little. This time my effort was greeted a little more warmly and my sister had it for dinner. YAY me.
Well, I guess everyone has to start somewhere. Even if that somewhere is around the ranks of cooking the perfect instant noodles and boiling macaroni.
Watch this space for my next adventure in the kitchen! Maybe something easier this time..like soup, if only I had a blender...or maybe like pancakes, from a box. Can't get too crazy
