The Best Kind of Saturday: Cafes
Thursday, June 9, 2011 @ 4:58 AM PERMALINK

Last Saturday, Abby and I went on an adventure. We started in the afternoon and decided to try Food For Thought at 8Q again. This time we got a table with no problem at all. YAY, forth time lucky.

The breakfast menu looks pretty good (both selection and price-wise) and the decor of 8Q is amazing.
The entire atmosphere is lovely, its clean and crisp with a great amount of natural light yet its still cozy and not clinical at all.

In the end, the both of us decided to have lunch items so we'll have to come back with the rest for brunch soon.

I had the bacon and broccoli risotto, Abby had something with smoked salmon and we shared fries. The food wasn't amazing though. The fries tasted unseasoned and the risotto was so-so, it did taste very healthy though. Perhaps I should have ordered something else.  It was great that when I asked for ketchup that I got really tomato sauce and not the usual high fructose corn syrup stuff.

It was also really hard to get the attention of the service staff but I guess no one likes to work on Saturday mornings.

I really love what Food for Thought does with the collection of donations going towards clean water projects and the sale merchandise in support of social causes and local designers.

We debated between having dessert at Food For Thought because they had pancakes that looked so good or going somewhere else. The tipping comment was "BUT WE HAVE A CAR, WE CAN GO ANYWHERE"

So somewhere else it was. After trying to remember the places from Abby's famed Yellow List, we decided on Bbakery at Arab Street. But not before we went nail polish shopping at China Square. Or rather Abby shopped and I watched.

The girl at the shop was amazingly nice and let us wait while she unboxed the shipment of nailpolish she just received. All because Abby was looking for this topcoat that made nail polish matt finished.

Abby with her loot..I think it was like 5 bottle of nail polish? Fanatic.

We had the best day, even though we got lost for 45 minutes trying to navigate the CBD area. We didnt have to pay ERP charges and we found parking exactly where we needed it. This said parking spot also turned out to be right in front Bbakery even though we had no clue where it was.

Bbakery is a small cafe on Arab Street with a great looking interior and great tasting cakes. The entire cafe is really small but they have a pretty good selection of cake. There are mains as well and I've read that the chicken is supposed to be good, another time maybe.

The lemon cream cake I ate was AMAZING. Just the right amount of tart to go with the dark chocolate. I also loved the gold leaf chocolate accents. Its not the cheapest cake I've had and they are kind of tiny but so worth it.

After hanging out we both had to head home. Abby had dinner with the family and I had Bong's mother's party to go to (more about that later)

I love Saturdays like this. I really love exploring cafes and soaking in the atmosphere. It really makes me feel like there is more to life than making money and worrying about adult things like jobs. To more saturdays exploring places on Abby's yellow list!
