I haven't blogged in so long that the new blogger posting format has completely blindsided me.
What have I been doing since I've come back from Australia? Surviving.
Trying to get a job, being determined not to get stuck in customer service and F&B anymore.
I feel so old yet sometimes I feel like my life is only just beginning, I can't decide if 23 is too old to expect people to give you chances. Probably.

Fog descending on Melbourne City. This was on a pretty cold day and I was at South Wharf's DFO shops just walking around. I had the world's worst food court lasagna there too.

This was one of the cheapest dinners Bong & i had. It cost us $6.80. Pretty decent and filling actually.
For some reason Japanese/Japanese inspired food seems to be relatively cheaper compared to other cuisines.

Chocolateria San Churro's hot chocolate
Jasmine told me to stay away from this hot chocolate chain but its everywhere and I was really craving hot chocolate on day when Bong and I were at Melbourne Central so I gave in and bought it. OMG. It's really thick and sinful, its like drinking an entire bar of melted chocolate. My godmother swears its just cause they add flour to it and that kind of spoilt the idea of it for me. Still, very yummy. Try it when you are there.
Dog guarding a door at Victoria Market
I absolutely love Victoria Market. I probably should have taken more photos actually but I was alone and too invested in looking at food I could not buy.
This has to be one of my favorite places in Melbourne. The La Trobe Reading room in the State Library.

The library is amazingly maintained and the architecture is magnificent. I never thought I would be swept away by a library but I was. I only managed to snap a few pictures before I found an exhibition about the history of books and got distracted.
I spent a good amount of time wandering around the exhibit. It covered how the first books were created ; what kind of paper, ink, binding, printing processes were used. It also showcased to viewers how and why certain books like encyclopedias and paperbacks became popular.

Books with animal skin pages that were handwritten and hand illustrated by monks in monasteries

Entirely hand illustrated encyclopedias for when people decided they wanted to try and contain the world's knowledge in books

Digests published by Charles Dickens before he became famous

Early generation penguin paperback books that changed the way people bought books

Old styled book binding styles and covers, all hand stitched and designed.
We also had dinner at Lygon St. After walking up and down pretty much clueless about where to go and talking to way too many people standing outside their shops. We decided to head to Papa Gino's which we heard is decent and not too heavy on the pocket.

Papa Gino's is cosy and got pretty busy as dinner time rolled around. The food is quite tasty but as to if its better than the rest, I really can't say since I only ate italian food once at Lyon.
Word of the wise though, if you are a small eater, just get the appetizer size. Bong and I were a little too ambitious and both bought our dishes in mains size and had leftovers for lunch the next day,

Yarn bombing by the Brunswick Bomber
I loved seeing yarn bombs. They made everything look so whimsical and colorful. Does anyone know how this is done? Do you have to knit over the item on the spot or can you pre-prepare?

Happy shiny Asian kids. Matching even, not intentional (I swear)

Melbourne City at night
Isn't it pretty? It was already quite late at night (8.20pm actually, according to the clock tower) but because it was still the last couple days of summer, the days were still exceptionally long. Yay for tourists like me
***********
I wish my days felt this cheerfully long in Singapore. Unfortunately, with each day that passes here, I am reminded that I NEED to quickly get a job before my entire family thinks I'm good for nothing.
More about Melbourne later, gotta go update my resume.
